China Declares Tsunami Alerts After Russia’s Quake
The Ministry of Natural Resources issued a yellow-level tsunami warning for specific zones, as mentioned by CGTN.
The tremor has raised concerns of sea surges, with tidal waves anticipated to arrive along Shanghai’s shoreline by evening, potentially reaching a height of 30 centimeters.
Taiwan also activated a tsunami watch, with its Central Weather Administration cautioning that wave activity may impact the island’s coastline at approximately 1:18 p.m. (0518GMT).
Simultaneously, the Philippines alerted its citizens living along the Pacific-facing shores about a “tsunami wave height of less than 1 meter,” following the intense seismic event.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) stated that the 8.8 magnitude earthquake sent tsunami alerts throughout the Pacific basin.
According to the agency, the quake’s origin was pinpointed at a depth of 20.7 kilometers (12.8 miles) and situated about 119 kilometers (73.9 miles) to the east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
