Indonesia captures Philippine flagged ship
"This vessel is the largest catch in the past decade, both in terms of its size and nets," as stated by Pung Nugroho Saksono, director general of Marine Resources and Fisheries Supervision at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries.
The FV Princess Janice-168, carrying 32 Filipino crew members, was apprehended on Monday. Authorities discovered that the ship did not have permits issued by the Indonesian government and was operating a modern purse seine net extending 1.3 kilometers.
Pung noted that the vessel had the capacity to haul as much as 400 tons of fish in a single trip, mainly juvenile tuna, potentially resulting in state losses estimated at 189.5 billion rupiah (around 11.66 million U.S. dollars).
